What is the Family Aid Program?

What is the Family Aid Program? Many indigenous families in the Guatemalan Highlands surrounding Lake Atitlan live in poverty. Work is scarce, wages are low, and natural disasters are a regular occurrence. For these families, even the most basic necessities can be out of reach. Family Aid donations help bring food, clothing, blankets, shelter, and medical care to families in extreme need. These sponsorships often supplement school sponsorships to ensure that kids don't have to drop out to help put food on the table.

Each family has their own story and unique set of needs. You can help either through onetime donations or monthly sponsorships. Read the stories, get to know the families, and go to the Mayan Families website to learn more.

Walter still needs medical help

Walter is 11 years old and has several health problems, including ulcers and intestinal infections. Walter's mother abandoned him and he now lives with his grandmother, Hermelinda. They came to us back in September asking for medical help for Walter. You can read the original post here. We didn't receive any funds for Walter and he hasn't gotten better. They returned to our office again, asking for help for Walter. He really needs to go to a private doctor and be examinued thoroughly, which includes having an ultrasound done.

To help Walter receive his exams and consultation will cost $30. After his doctor's visit, we will know more about what treatments he may need. If you would like to help pay for Walter's medical expenses, please go to Donate Now and scroll to the bottom of the page. Enter your donation in the "Other $" box. In the "Details" box, write "FA-179 Medical".
